First of all I have learned that, being descriptive can make the story all the better, also there is so much imagery that it is more like a movie than an actual story, he doesn’t use passive verbs but actions to describe his scenes or the people, this story is a very well described, the word use to describe the scenery or the story itself are not words that are over the top of peoples head, they are simple words use very effectively.

Be specific analyze the effectiveness of the aspect of the story and how you can learn from it.

The effectiveness of the story lies in his ability to describe the scene like a movie, relying on his words and the way they are put into a certain format.  He makes sure there are more verbs than nouns in the story, by replacing the nouns with a verb if he can, also he doesn’t use many passive verbs in his sentence, mainly active verbs, that is why the story is so vivid and captures your attention

What is at least one specific way that can improve your writing after this story?

When he was describing the car that matt had, the fine detail to it, you could just imagine that and almost touch the car. The color blue is so vivid in your mind that the car is painted right in front of you; the fine details of the car also define the dimensions of the car and it over all meaning to matt.

Today we got to wake up a little later, breakfast was at 9 instead of 8, so that was good, a little more sleep. There was only a morning service and that was it, but it was still just as powerful as the previous service, this time the story was about how King Saul broke the covenant with The Gibeonites, he attack them. So for his mistake, David is now king, David had to make peaces with The Gibeonites by killing 7 of Saul’s descendents, David had to choose how would be killed. His choices were 2 children in particular, two sons of Rizpah, instead of get made at God and David, she knew it had to be done, so she stood on a rock protecting her boys dead bodies till the rain came (they were punished with a famine), so she stayed on that rock knocking vultures and any other thing that would get her boys (Samuel 21). The point of the story was not that Saul messed up and his actions cause other a consequence, but that Rizpah, should there and protected her boys for six months, she fought for six months to keep her promise to God she would protect her boys. That pertained to this whole trip, everybody in the stadium “got Jesus” if you say, but we still need to fight to keep the fire inside, fight to keep bringing souls to the lord.

Also, he preached that the devil will attack us now because he knows we have something against him that can ruin his plans. The speaker told us five ways the devil will attack, I forgot some of them, but the ones I remember were the devil will make everything seem like it didn’t happen, like the trip was just hyped up joke. Then the other one I remember is he will try to destroy you for god, so that you aren’t a treat to him anymore.

Form this day, I woke up in my cabin with all the other guys that came on this trip, the first thing we did was taking turns taking a shower for those who didn’t the night before. I was the last to take a shower, and then they left without me to breakfast but it was all cool because had some peace while taking a shower. That is not relevant to the main point of this so, now to get to the main point, the rest of the day and how amazing it was, so after breakfast we went to morning service and had a great worship service, furthering what happened to me last night, become more involved in Christ and fully give my life to him. There were 4 speakers for the morning and afternoon services, each with a devotion covering a different devotion dealing the different parts of your walk with Christ, each one had a skit or some presentation with the message.

Different messages:

1. They first was the brother of the worship leader in the band, he talk about how your life can in an instant and how right now is the best time to change, you don’t have to change later or tomorrow and it is very important that you are completely involved with him totally. Also he use a story form his past, “they were racing down the road when him and his brother where teenagers, they took a shape turn to catch up with the car and were going 120 mph and there side about to hit a side guard rail (the car was on 2 wheels), and he cried out the name of Jesus and God turn the car on all 4 wheels and the continued down the road at 85 mph”. That moment changed their lives forever, they started to get right with God and become these great worship leaders for fall retreat. The Lee university drama team put on a skit about the saving power of Gods holy fire cleansing your body and making it pure, so that you can see God in heaven.
2. Then another speaker, one of the youth pastors form another church preached a message about missing your mark, which is what sin is, missing the mark. He put on a fun game, got one of the youth pastors to get  a big plastic target, he went around the whole gym and chose 15 guys to come on stage and try to hit the target the youth pastor was holding, it was funny because a lot of the throws missed and actual hit the people standing or sitting beside the target, one of the people in my youth service got hit right in the middle of the stomach, I just sat there and laughed at him, but he was a good sport about it. So that was the fun, then we went into worship after that, first very powerful and heartfelt. Then we went into to awesome pumped up beat “All because of Jesus” and just had a blast then eat had a break for about an hour or so.
3. After that, the third speaker talked about what happens when your guard is let down and how to build it up, using the example of the rebuilding of the wall of Jerusalem, how they protected the week points with archers and weapons, he taught me that I have weak points that are undefended and that is why I keep failing down because the devil was attacking my weak spots. Then he use a guy with an Obama mask and a paintball gun, how someone could shoot the president (stupid one at that, dislike him very much but have to deal with it). Then he got some people to form a wall around him, the guy with the paint ball gun came back, but ran away because the wall of people had paintball gun too.
4. Finally the last guy talked about how we need to reach out to the world and not just to keep the walls of the youth retreat. How there are still, hurting people out in the world still, how we should reach out to them.  Help the lost find their way to Christ, but not to force it ourselves on the other person but let god work in them, all we can do is lead them the rest is up to God. The biggest thing I had trouble with is I had Christ in me but I wanted to be the person bringing them to God myself and get the credit for it, I was playing God. This one he used a the story of Jacob wrestling with the angel to get his blessing, in the middle of the dessert, he use 2 volunteers and put them in big padded sumo wrestlers suits and made them fight against each other to show that sometimes we have to fight for what we want from God.

Then we go on to the night or evening service which was the most amazing thing I have ever felt in my life, it is so hard to describe the feeling that you have when you are in God present truly, just you and him together; the love , the power, just the amazing Awe of his infinite glory.

We started out with a skit from the main church that sponsors this event, and it was fun and great got everybody hyped up, then some amazing worship went on, singing one of my favorite songs “how he loves”. After everybody is hyped up from the worship, the preach for the night comes and speaks a life changing message in my eyes, it was how we may believe in Jesus as our savior and messiah, but it is not enough to get us into heaven, because even demons and the devil knows him to, probably more so than we do. The problem with humans is that we like to have control over our lives, it is not until we give God everything, all control over our lives, letting him ordain our steps. The main subject of the message was to make leaders out of us, to let us let everything go, and be in his total control, this is the hardest thing a person can do I know, I just did tonight when I wrote this. It is for the better though, in God, myself and the world, I just am thankful that we do have this God that is so loving and forgiving.

Ok so the feeling you get from it is so wonderful and amazing, it feels like a flood of rain that is refreshing has come over you, there is so much power that I was shaking on the ground laying down, just shaking uncontrollably with a feeling of true peace, it is so hard to describe, and it leaves you speechless. I felt so great, like a burden was being lifted off that very second, like I could stand up without the torment and pain I had before this trip, then afterwards I had this unnatural energy of being hyped up and just being very happy, nothing could upset me, felt like I could take on the world. Now as I am writing this, I have a peace that is so relaxing, this school work didn’t bother me like it would of before, I am just the happiest person and want to share this experience with everybody out there, if you haven’t felt this and let God total in your life, I advise you do it as soon as possible, it may seem hard now but when you look back you will see it was the best part of your life.

I am so glad I have this miraculous God in my heart, Thank you God for everything, I praise you in every way, Thank you so much!
